If you give a kid a field trip...

Dear Families,
It has been a pleasure meeting with many of you at parent teacher conferences over the past week!  It is amazing how much progress all of the students have made since the beginning of the school year!  I have loved watching them grow both academically and socially.

We had a great field trip on Tuesday to the Flynn Theater. The production titled, "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" was a musical that highlighted eight picture books including favorites such as "Martha Speaks," "Amazing Grace," and of course "If you Give a Mouse a Cookie!"  Your children had tons of fun making and eating pizzas, as well as sitting with their friends at Pizzaria Uno.  This was a much deserved celebration as all of our first graders have worked hard to earn over 500 STARs collectively this school year! Way to go, First Graders!!!

On Tuesday, our school will be recognizing Autism Awareness Day by wearing blue! We are doing this in an effort to help students understand what Autism is and how they can be a friend to children with Autism.  For more information about Autism check out this website:  http://www.autismspeaks.org/

Please remind your child to wear blue on Tuesday!  Thank you!

Listen out for spring peepers!

Dear Families,
We've had a very busy week!  We have been learning about frog life cycles and writing informational reports about them.  Did you know that different frog calls mean different things?  Your first grader does now, along with many other interesting facts!  In math, we have begun our geometrey unit and students have also been figuring out picture problems and creating their own for classmates to solve.

Wasn't it wonderful to have some sunny, spring-like days last week? With the hope that there will be more of those in the near future...please keep sending boots and a change of shoes so the mud on the playground doesn't come into our classroom after recess. Thanks for your help!

The PIE garden group is looking for each classroom to have a parent volunteer that could help with planting and garden work this spring.  This volunteer would organize other volunteers to help with our planting day.  Please let me know if you are interested in volunteering for this position.

I am looking forward to talking to you all about your wonderful children during conferences!  If you haven't done so already, please sign up using the sign-up genius I sent out earlier this week.  If you did not receive it or none of the times work for you, please let me know so we can find one that does.

Happy Birthday to our Student of the Week!  We enjoyed learning all about you!
