Penguins!

As part of our measurement unit in math the students learned about penguins!  They carefully measured and studied penguin features to create real life like painted penguins.  In the pictures, you will see Emperor, King, Rockhopper, Gentoo, Chinstrap, and Little Blue Penguins!  Each student also wrote an informational report to accompany their penguin. The penguins are beautiful!  This is a class full of talented artists!

Check out the photos below of the first graders sketching and painting their penguins!

A visit from Grandma Suzie

Renee's grandma visited us all the way from Washington state! She is an artist and teacher of art who used her own beautiful creations to share three folktales about Native Americans.  As you can see from her paintings below she is very talented and was quite inspiring to our first graders!

After the stories, the students had a chance to paint some of their own wonderful creations!

Science

In science we are studying sound and sound waves!  The students have been collecting data to help them answer questions such as, "How does a guitar make sound?" "Do all things that make sound vibrate?"  and "Do all vibrations make sound?"    After testing our data we are looking at it together during our scientist meetings and students are making and agreeing on claims based on our data! Ask your child to tell you more about it!

Below are pictures of students testing if things that make sound also vibrate.
